Nike Air Max 90 London Underground Roundel
Description
In Nike's first attempt to use jacquard material as the base for a shoe's upper, the London Underground x Nike Air Max 90 "Roundel" released in December, 2013. Available only via a Piccadilly Circus pop-up shop initially, the Roundel AM90 later made its way to a limited number of Nike Sportswear tier-zero retailers. Paying tribute to London's train cars, the London Underground Air Max 90 uses the densely woven jacquard material to construct a single piece woven upper that transitional from blocks of tan to red, brown, and black representative of the transport's seats. On the Air Max 90 Roundel, all traditional AM90 overlays are replaces by one single piece of jacquard material. Even the Nike Swoosh is depicting in the material. Nike used color-clocking changes to the pattern to depict the traditional Air Max 90 overlays on the London Underground AM90 . Roundel branding is found on the tongue, and the AM90 Roundel was delivered in special packaging with London Underground and NSW branding. Originally retailing for £100 the Roundel Air Max Ninety came in slightly higher at retail than its package-partner the Air Max 1. Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Transport for London (TFL), the London Underground x Nike Air Max 90 "Roundel" used classical TFL colors with completely new technologies and graphics usage on its single-piece jacquard upper that gave sneaker enthusiasts a taste of both past and present.
